Everyday we hear about many incidents where petty criminals snatch away people’s belongings like mobile phones, gold chains, etc. Such crimes are on an increase. As per a common observation, criminals usually use stolen vehicles for such activities and later on abandon the vehicles. In a number of cases, criminals even physically harm the victims to rob them of their belongings. There have been instances of people being shot at in order to successfully snatch their valuables.

Delhi Police is also taking many steps to curb rampant Snatching in Delhi. Special teams are formed from time to time in order to nab Snatchers. Recently, South-West district police team arrested two such snatchers and auto-lifters and also recovered stolen properties.

In the year 2013, Delhi Police registered 3,638 cases of Snatching in Delhi. Next year, in 2014, this number doubled up and reached up to 7,350 cases being registered. The year 2015 again witnessed an increase and 9,896 cases of Snatching were registered by Delhi Police. This year 2016 (up to 15th November), 8,425 cases of Snatching have been registered which is minutely lesser than the cases registered last year during the same period i.e. 8,599 cases.

We advise all our readers to be safe and take care of their belongings. While out in public places, care should be taken to secure your valuables like mobile phones, jewellery, etc. Ensure proper lock and anti-theft systems in your homes and vehicles.
