DRUGS: ADDICTION AND DEALING WITH IT

drugs

Addiction! Addiction! Addiction! Now become Alert! Alert! Alert!

We read many articles on drugs and mostly we find the state of culture, saints, most important preserved by martyrs and full of life is under the problem of Drug Addiction and that is Punjab. “Terrorism has failed in front of Drug addiction; work continuously on destroying families and relations.” Addiction of drugs in youth has become a national problem. For youngsters, it’s very easy to get into drugs and bad habits. When we realize to get rid of these habits, its quite late and becomes a scourge for the country.

Addiction and realization are part of same journey, but one can’t stay with both. Many form of drugs available in powder form, needles or in syringe form and many other forms, but why these drugs are so common in young generation?

One of the important reasons to get into addiction is curiosity. How? Human beings are curious about new things and wanna try to feel high. But when you regularize this habit, it has already become addiction. Secondly, people who are emotionally suffering due to heart break, frustration or failure in job or career and wish to remove loneliness or want a temporary satisfaction of mind, usually take to drugs.

Drug Industry is thriving day by day in India, around about turnover rate of more than 500 billion dollars. From this data we can conclude that India’s future is in repulsive state. Cannabis (Bhaang), Brown Sugar, Cocaine, Ganjha and many other local drugs are among the top available in India. As per the UN report, One million heroin addicts are registered in India, and unofficially there are as many as five million.

Around 70% of consumption is by people in the age group of 15-27 years. Addicted users are more than the recreational ones. Addicted are those users who consume regularly and mostly alone and become less productive. Recreational user occasionally consumes drugs normally in a social gathering. Drugs via injection are used by most population and out of those approx 20% are HIV Positive, 20% are suffering from Hepatitis B and more over 50% from Hepatitis C.

Drugs are consumed directly and inhaled other time. With every bite or puff of drugs, dangerous chemicals enter into the body and consumer gets a fake and temporary feeling of being on top of the world.  Regular drug doses cause major problems of health like heart attack, liver problems, high blood pressure, restlessness, killing mentality and many more unknown issues.

Drugs’ impact on society is quite bad. And the worst is, only one out of five drug addicts are able to cope up with the rehabilitation treatment. Addiction is crawling into our civilization, irony is, we were already in the lap of addiction; and the result, we were pretty late about it.

Many Rehabilitation Centers are there in the country especially in Delhi to get rid of this scourge. Yoga, Meditation, Ayurveda etc, are very useful for a recovering addict.

Yoga helps in develop physical control and obviously strengthens an addict’s drug-influenced body. Yoga helps in controlling the stress level and boosts the body’s natural systems of detoxification.

Meditation is also an alternate option for recovering from the habit of drugs. It Helps in better concentration, relaxation, inner peace, stress reduction, exhaustion and is very helpful in dealing with emotional ups and downs. So, meditation has apparent benefits for an addict.

As Ayurveda treatment of drug addict, unique expression of all five elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Sky are important.  With these elements human body and universe exist. In Ayurveda addicted should be come out with the help of good and correct diet, exercising, different therapies like massages and exercise, some form of meditation and most important personal counseling.

Its time to give up on drugs and move towards life!
