You read it right; reason is not so big, as we live in India and brutal rapes are very minor for us. 3 years ago, there was a rape on the road of Delhi, there was a woman who lost her life on the name of men wills on the name of pleasure. Wow, we are country of women empowerment, and daily we are doing many events on the name of empowerment and trying to prove we are empowered…
However, as a writer, I still have feelings that we are empowered. what is the meaning of empowering a woman? In literal language, empowerment means to groom anyone in such a manner that a person can fight or sustain in every single situation. But are we seriously follow the thumb rule of empowerment, or we are just teaching few tactics of self-defense and planned few awareness campaigns on the name of Women Empowerment and Self-dependency. From last 3 years, government raises funds for the self-defense awareness programmes, but have they ever tried to find out the result? Exactly how many women are able to help herself in such situations?. On the other hand whatever data is available with Government is far from the reality. In India, more than 70% population travel in buses and public transportation. Are these women getting the training on the name of self-defense? Answer is NO.
After three years, when there is a news that the government is set to release the perpetrator a day before Nirbhaya’s third death anniversary. What we have to think as a common woman of Capital. Why on the name of Juvenile, the rapist, the murderer will get freedom from the most brutal crime, ‘The RAPE’ done by him? And the extreme is that the rapist has no remorse for his crime and that the juvenile home failed to reform him. This does not only hurt me as a women but as a citizen i forced to think that we are in a system where people can get free after committing any crime.Irony of laws and system is that even he will be protected by the same law which was totally destroyed by that person.Who knows who will be his next target.
So seriously, is this the issue of safety to so-called Juvenile Accused? Is this not the issue of security and safety of the women in city? Is this not the issue of the parents of Nirbhaya (Jyoti) continues their fight for justice?
Nirbhaya’s mother fears an attack on her and her family once he is released. According to Nirbhaya mother’s statement “I have spoken against him in media. He may try to quite me forever. I travel alone in public transport. Who will protect me?”
As Nirbhaya’s parents now become the symbol of justice, many families of rape victims have approached them for help. But they feel that nothing has changed in the last three years; instead the number of minor rape victims has increased.
Nirbhaya’s parents say “justice delay is justice denied”.This is a fact in the eyes of law not only the statement alone.
We haven’t got justice yet. Those four convicts got death penalty have not been punished yet. Our government, our judiciary, everything is at fault.
So now our government and judicial system will wait to arrest till he rapes and murders another girl. That fateful night I was waiting for my daughter to come back home. But she never returned. I don’t want another mother go through what I went through because of this rapist, says a mother.
Government does and will do but what we are doing as a civil society. Is it not the right time to speak about? Is it not right time to put pressure on Government.
If women have to be empowered then women have to come forward.
This is what I am trying to convey.
